20-year language dream handed to Opus: 200 pages of notes turned into an executable plan
pbaylies · x · 2026-11-03
Developer LH is building Zed, a new programming language based on category theory, with goals including precise automatic parallelization up to the Amdahl limit, GC-free memory management, pervasive partial evaluation, and physical units in the type system. Stalled for 20+ years due to its ambition, the project is now moving again: he fed Opus 200 pages of design notes and existing code to produce a cohesive build plan. Screenshots show a "Zed plan" dashboard orchestrating 246 tasks with parallel verify/repair loops and live logs of compiler tests passing and retrying.
