CircleCI report: work in progress is the new software delivery bottleneck
rseroter · x · 2026-11-03
CircleCI's 2026 State of Software Delivery Q3 report argues coding agents let teams keep far more work in flight, but validate/review/integrate capacity hasn't kept up — making WIP the new bottleneck. Q1 data: daily workflow volume up 59% YoY while median main-branch throughput fell 7% and success rates hit a five-year low. By Q3 CI improved, yet unfinished work still piles up faster than it ships as parallel development accelerates.
