312 MCP tools, only 5% loaded: how modern clients tame context bloat with tool search
tristanbob · x · 2026-11-02
Modern MCP clients like Claude Code implement tool search so only the tools needed for the task are loaded into the context window, fixing the old problem where many MCP tools ate your context.
In the author's Victris Arena project, 312 MCP tools are available but only 5% are loaded. A screenshot shows MCP tools taking just 6.8k tokens (0.7%) of a 1M context, with another 141.1k tokens of tools deferred for on-demand loading; overall context usage is 71%.
