Non-dev builds Android DJ app with Claude Code: on-device stem separation at 2x realtime
SuryaVardhan1 · reddit · 2026-11-02
A non-full-time Android developer shares FireTheDJ, an app he directed Claude Code to build: it auto-DJs a party by analyzing every song (tempo, key, drops, vocals, language), planning transitions and mixing on the beat. 12 releases so far, plus a TV app.
Technical highlights:
- On-device stem separation: Demucs exported to ONNX with STFT written in Kotlin, running 2x realtime in the background on a mid-range phone (64-bit, 6GB+ RAM required)
- A 2.5s-per-frame visualizer rewritten for the GPU until smooth
- Testing on real phone and TV hardware over adb, with Claude reading the logs
Lessons: small steps, mockups before building, and hardware testing every time worked; big vague requests didn't. Source and releases are on GitHub.
