Confirmed: ChatGPT and Codex will share a single token-based usage limit from December

OpenAI has updated its help page confirming that ChatGPT and Codex will draw from a single shared usage allowance starting December:
- Plus, Pro, and Business plans get one pooled allowance across ChatGPT and Codex
- Usage is measured in tokens, so bigger models and harder tasks burn through it faster; Instant chat doesn't count
- Combined remaining usage and reset times will appear in Settings > Usage
- Hitting the cap means waiting for reset, upgrading, or buying credits
OpenAI claims most users won't hit resets more often than before, but heavy Codex users who also rely on ChatGPT should plan around the shared pool. The poster also makes a fair ask: publish per-plan token allowances before December so users can check the math.
