Stanford student accused of AI-written paper cleared after rebuilding it live with prompts

A viral thread (retweeted by Elon Musk) recounts a Stanford student reported for academic misconduct because his research paper seemed too good — leading to a 3-hour integrity hearing.
He rebuilt the paper live in front of the panel using an AI tool: first feeding raw notes with a prompt asking the model to act as a research methodology expert, identify the 3 strongest arguments ranked by originality, and map them against existing literature. He then prompted it to simulate a hostile PhD-level peer reviewer, generate every serious objection to his thesis, and assess which objections had merit.
The panel reportedly went quiet and the accusation collapsed. Unverified story, but the role-based prompt workflow is directly reusable.
