Claude Code got a server-side rule banning game rewrites, with no opt-out
Bestlife73 · reddit · 2026-10-30
Developer chasm discovered that Claude Code picked up a new rule around October 27, pushed silently from Anthropic's servers under a remote config flag called "tenguheronbrook", with no setting to turn it off.
The full rule: "Do build original games, games in a genre, and games from the user's own designs and assets. Don't build a recreation of a specific existing game, even if it is renamed or called original." It lives in the claude.json config (the screenshot also shows a "claude-opus-5-5" model field), meaning Anthropic can change the coding assistant's behavioral boundaries without a release. The post asks whether this spells the end of AI game rewrites and modding; it drew 560K+ views. The Reddit submitter's takeaway: owning your own compute matters, since your account can be restricted in a sneaky update.
