Anthropic acquires Mithril Medicine, a biotech with a single full-time employee running drug discovery on Claude

Anthropic has acquired Mithril Medicine, a biotech company whose only full-time employee, Cody Tranbarger, ran drug discovery with Claude and a roster of part-time advisors — an early sample of how AI may restructure biotech organizations.
- Mithril developed bispecific antibodies targeting LAMA2-CMD and other ECM-related genetic diseases
- Tranbarger is also the long-anonymous X account Professor Oak; the company started with a small seed from Atlas Venture
- It ran as a virtual, radically lean company for 18 months on a "one operator + lots of Claude + part-time consultants" model
The case tests a new model: can one person plus a stack of AI run an entire drug pipeline?
