Sarvam AI's Indus Cowork goes live for 2,500 Maharashtra officials amid 'mediocre PSU' criticism

Sarvam AI announced that Indus Cowork is now live for 2,500 officials across Maharashtra's government, launched by CM Dev Fadnavis. It gives officials a secure AI productivity desk to draft documents, analyse reports and summarise files, plus cross-department search of Government Resolutions to find the latest rules and check which have been replaced — one of India's first state-scale AI deployments in administration.
Commentator pranavmarla was bluntly critical: a lab once pitched as India's sovereign frontier AI lab is turning into 'a mediocre PSU.' He acknowledges the real limitations of building a frontier lab in India but argues some genuine innovation would have been preferable to government-grade products.
