KUKA bets on physical AI to teach its ~600,000 installed robots new tricks
xmercury_one · x · 2026-10-29
Christoph Schell, who runs KUKA — the company behind one of the first industrial robots (Famulus, 1973) with nearly 600,000 robots now deployed in factories worldwide — says KUKA is betting on physical AI: combining its trademark deterministic automation with robots that understand situations and act on intent, so even older machines can learn new tasks.
Context worth noting: KUKA has been owned by China's Midea since 2017, making one of China's biggest appliance makers its parent and a ready-made customer.
