Dev builds a shared mailbox for his AI agents, then discovers the wake-up problem
Ambitious_Answer6857 · reddit · 2026-10-28
A Reddit developer who orchestrates multiple AI agents hand-copied messages between chats until building a "shared mailbox": a git repo with one folder per agent and strict handoff rules, making message delivery traceable.
The catch: writing a file to GitHub doesn't wake a chat session — tasks sat in the inbox until he manually prompted each agent to check for mail. He moved from being the clipboard to being the doorbell ringer.
His key insight: delivered, read, started, and actually done are four distinct states, and most setups track at most two of them. He asks the community how they handle wake-up: polling, webhooks, a coordinator agent, or a human.
