Google launches Gemini API CLI: one key gives your coding agent all multimodal tools
kieranklaassen · x · 2026-10-28
Google launched the Gemini API CLI — a stateless, agent-first CLI (by @philschmid) that plugs into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and more. It's not a new coding agent: your agent owns context and planning while the CLI handles API calls, covering image/video/speech/music generation, analysis of PDFs/images/audio/video/YouTube URLs, transcription to md/json/srt, and background Deep Research, with self-describing flags like --help and --dry-run. Boosters argue Gemini is underrated: one API key gives agents vision, native video understanding, audio listening, generation, cheap transcription and classification, plus creative second opinions uncorrelated with Claude/OpenAI models.
