Multimodal GraphRAG models missing and contradictory evidence for storm damage assessment
JeremyCMorgan · x · 2026-10-28
A new arXiv paper (2610.28216) presents a multimodal engineering GraphRAG framework for post-wind-event building assessment. Unlike most GraphRAG systems that just retrieve more facts, this one explicitly models four evidence types: confirmed damage, explicit negative evidence, unresolved conditions, and temporary repairs. It combines image- and text-based evidence into a provenance-preserving, component-level representation, constrains inference under partial observability via compatibility, contradiction, evidence-precedence and abstention mechanisms, and propagates downtime uncertainty with Monte Carlo simulation over an action-dependency network. Demonstrated on tornado-affected low-rise residential buildings using reconnaissance reports and images.
