136,460 US jobs linked to AI layoffs — but attribution is more nuanced than the headline
m3nt3_ · reddit · 2026-10-27
Per the jobloss.ai tracker maintained by the Alliance for Secure AI, 136,460 US jobs have been linked to AI-related workforce reductions since January 2025 (as of October 23, 2026) — 53 reports across 46 companies and 18 industries.
The author stresses "AI-related" ≠ "AI-replaced": each event gets one of three attribution labels — Explicit (company itself cited AI/automation), Reported (credible journalism identified AI as primary driver), and Mixed (AI was one factor among restructuring and cost cuts). Translating the number into "AI eliminated 136,460 jobs" would be misleading.
