AI safety debate: focus on frontier AI being "undemocratic and dangerous", not extinction
birchlse · x · 2026-10-28
Quoting a frustrated post about yet another AI safety controversy, Garrison Lovely argues that if you want to freeze or pause frontier AI development, framing it as "undemocratic and dangerous" is probably the most effective argument — most people would find those risks enough to justify a pause, and they're far easier to believe than extinction scenarios. He calls on the AI safety community to stop making everything "x-risk or bust" and refocus the narrative.
