X's For You checks only 2,800 posts per open — and a new fair-share filter stops fresh posts being cut first
faraz0x · x · 2026-10-26
Developer faraz0x read X's open-source recommendation code and found the For You pipeline only examines 2,800 posts per open out of a 3,700-post candidate pool. Until this week, brand-new posts were the first ones cut. On Oct 22, X enabled a fair-share filter: every source now loses the same share, so nobody goes first. He walks through the 2,800 limit, where candidates come from, who got cut, and what it means for small accounts — plus what's still unknown.
