Open textbook on robot learning launches with chapters on control and imitation to VLA
GlenBerseth · x · 2026-10-26
Robotics researcher Glen Berseth is writing an open textbook on robot learning; the first two draft chapters are online.
- Chapter 1: What robot learning is and how to make control less brittle.
- Chapter 2: Imitation learning from ALVINN to today's VLA models, and why behaviour cloning is like walking a tightrope.
An accompanying figure maps morphologies (humanoid, quadruped, aerial) against tasks to illustrate data coverage challenges. Free and open, a solid entry point for anyone getting into robot learning.
