LocalCode: open-source Windows coding desktop for Ollama hits early preview
ChengyiZhang · reddit · 2026-10-25
A developer released an early preview of LocalCode, an MIT-licensed Electron desktop app for Windows with a Chinese UI that runs local models via Ollama, with optional bring-your-own cloud APIs.
Features include project-file editing, visible diffs, approval gates before each terminal command, separate conversation workers, and live previews of generated HTML, images, and text.
The author flags caveats: an unresolved app-data isolation issue, installer release on hold, worker separation is not an OS sandbox, and most automated tests use synthetic fixtures rather than real-model benchmarks. Use only on disposable, non-sensitive projects.
