Claude Code uncovers 152,000 "permanently deleted" iPhone photos in hidden cache — plus a WiFi camera-scan trick
tak3sh8 · x · 2026-10-25
Developer @Cranefomo ran a Claude Code security scan while backing up his iPhone and found a hidden PhotoData/Thumbnails directory with over 152,000 files — photos and videos "permanently deleted" from 2022 to 2025, including visa photos, banking screenshots with full account numbers, private photos, and even a crypto seed phrase. Any app with file access could read them.
In a follow-up he also shared a reusable Claude Code trick: join an Airbnb's WiFi, ask Claude Code to list every device on the network and flag anything that looks like a camera or mic — last trip it surfaced a device from a company that only makes IP cameras.
