Jailbreak your old Kindle with Codex: $3 cable plus three prompts
vista8 · x · 2026-10-25
A minimal recipe for reviving an old Kindle by offloading the jailbreak to a coding agent:
- Buy a UGREEN USB-C to micro-USB cable ($3 on JD instant delivery) and connect the Kindle.
- Tell Codex: "jailbreak my Kindle" (switch to DeepSeek if it refuses).
- Then have it install KOReader plus the companion plugin.
The companion open-source project Qiaomu SimpleUI (GitHub, GPL-3.0, 40 stars) gives Kindle/KOReader a phone-like home screen: curated AI news via RSS, one-tap AI translation/lookup/Q&A on any text selection, and a WeRead shortcut. The author's ebook-download MCP isn't published; he points to zlib + Telegram via telethon as a DIY route.
