Can AlphaGenome-style models cure cancer? A debate on AI-driven small molecule drug design
Sauers_ · x · 2026-10-25
A debate on whether "AI solves biology": one side argues AlphaGenome-like models can generate highly selective small molecules on demand, wiping out most viral infections and cancers. Sauers pushes back: some diseases like HIV and TP53 deletion aren't clearly curable even with perfect small molecule targeting, and continuously killing targetable cancer cells may drive evolution toward non-targetable forms. Still, he concedes a perfect small molecule oracle would be enormously useful for viral disease and cancer research.
