Dev reverse-engineers 90s Mac puzzle game Blobbo into a browser-playable RL environment
Michael_D_Moor · x · 2026-10-24
A developer spent a rainy Saturday reverse-engineering Blobbo, a classic 90s Macintosh puzzle game he grew up with, rebuilding it as a free browser-playable open-source project.
Highlights:
- 30 regular and 4 extra-hard rooms, all unlocked from the start, with unlimited undo and no account needed
- Built-in editor with JSON export/import for creating and sharing custom maps via pull requests
- Extra-hard maps are generated automatically by agent tournaments: agents design maps that other agents fail to solve, creating an automatic difficulty-evolution loop
The goal in each room is to collect chests and reach the stairs, with balls, arrows and vines obeying different rules.
