Summarizer hallucinates details from headline-only feeds, dev asks how to check faithfulness
rahul_watertech · reddit · 2026-10-24
A Reddit developer recounts a pipeline pitfall: one feed was a Google News RSS search whose description field contained only the headline plus outlet name, and fetching the article link returned Google's generic redirect blurb. So the summarizer worked from headlines alone and still produced confident details—one summary mentioned "centers in cities like Bengaluru and Hyderabad" when none of the five outlets' headlines said anything like that.
The catch: his quality gate can't flag it because the text reads fine. Swapping to feeds with real descriptions helps that source but doesn't solve the general problem. He's asking how people check faithfulness in practice—second model pass, NLI, extract-then-summarize, or something else.
