Agent team reverse-engineers Sonos firmware, appears to recover per-model RSA keys
doodlestein · x · 2026-10-23
Developer doodlestein reports a breakthrough on the "FrankenSonos" project: an agent team codenamed BrightMaple/CoralSwan recovered legacy updater-embedded RSA private keys from Sonos firmware, with keys seemingly per model family (Play:5, Play:1 recoverable the same way from plaintext 34.16 rootfs). With the private key, arbitrary firmware sections can be re-encrypted, and the notes sketch a possible splice attack against signature verification. The author credits a team of fully uncensored models and remains cautiously optimistic until everything works.
