Hugging Face hands OpenEnv RL environments project to Linux Foundation for neutral governance
lmoroney · x · 2026-10-23
Hugging Face is giving OpenEnv, its project for reinforcement learning environments, to the AAIF and the Linux Foundation for neutral governance. Ben Burtenshaw says the committee has built and used OpenEnv at Hugging Face, Microsoft, Reflection, Meta-PyTorch, Fleet, Mercor, RadixArk, Nebius, Modal, Prime Intellect, Unsloth and more. Environments are where agents practice real-world skills and deserve the same care as models and training code; shared governance lets everyone build on the same environments and compare results fairly.
