MCP roadmap: five priority areas from agentic messaging to SDK DX
bibryam · x · 2026-10-23
The MCP roadmap lays out five priority areas at varying maturity:
- Agentic messaging: MCP Tasks (async long-running work) plus MCP Events (server-initiated updates/webhooks)
- Richer semantics: Skills over MCP, progressive discovery, cleaner tool result shapes
- Authorization & identity: DPoP, workload identity federation, ID-JAG and token exchange
- HTTP-native transport: HTTP over stdio, caching with ETags
- SDK developer experience: Extension API, generated SDKs
The goal is making MCP the default protocol for agentic messaging and orchestration.
