~76% of MCP Tool Schemas Are Under 1 kB, but Oversized Ones Risk Truncation
bibryam · x · 2026-10-23
From bibryam's keynote takeaways (11/16): OpenAI's advice for MCP servers in ChatGPT is to keep tool schemas detailed and focused. Oversized schemas can be truncated, losing argument descriptions and structure—inspect generated schemas before shipping. Among published MCP tools, 76% have input schemas under 1 kB (1-2 kB: 14%, 2-5 kB: 7%); the largest reach 260 kB per tool and 1.4 MB per server.
