New paper: Binary Discrete Diffusion reasons by narrowing candidate tokens like Sudoku
orvieto_antonio · x · 2026-10-23
A new paper introduces Binary Discrete Diffusion for language and reasoning tasks: inspired by how humans solve Sudoku—keeping a few candidates per cell and iteratively narrowing them—it denoises sets of candidate tokens using binary representations, converging toward answers.
The approach brings "maintain multiple hypotheses and eliminate" structure into diffusion-based language models, a new direction for diffusion models in reasoning.
