IBM Moves Spyre Accelerator to PyTorch Inductor Backend, 7x Smaller Compiler
PyTorch · x · 2026-10-22
IBM and Red Hat detail moving torch-spyre's compile backend from custom sendnn to Inductor, shrinking the compiler 7x. Spyre is a 75W PCIe dataflow accelerator with 32 ring-connected cores and per-core 2MB scratchpads; most of Inductor carried over, with work concentrated where the dataflow design diverges from GPU assumptions. IBM also brought Spyre into vLLM and previews next-gen hardware.
