A new paper led by @KamacheeMax, which author Stephen Casper calls possibly the most important he has written, warns that a major AI-enabled terrorism event could occur as early as 2027 or 2028. The team ran a pre-mortem, made 9 falsifiable predictions, and wrote 2 concrete scenarios covering cyber, bio, and chemical risks and how AI developers' decisions shape them. Yoshua Bengio amplified it: misuse is a risk with any powerful technology, but with AI the consequences could be catastrophic.
