AI confusion problem: fear-spreading voices drown out real value and real risks
DavidLinthicum · x · 2026-10-21
Appearing on John Rush's show Rush To Reason, David Linthicum argues we have a worsening "AI confusion problem": the gap between what AI actually does — impressive, productivity-driving, beneficial — and the noise around it is wider than ever.
He calls out strong voices, including Bill Gates, for spreading FUD about killer robots and mass doom, while the real dangers are far more specific: flawed reasoning models, hallucinations, bad data, and poor implementation — none of which need a sci-fi apocalypse to cause real damage. The hype leaves everyone confused about AI's purpose, fixated on the dramatic instead of the practical.
