Hassabis keeps pulling AGI closer: now expects it within 2-3 years, down from 5-10
haider1 · x · 2026-10-21
Demis Hassabis has steadily shortened his AGI timeline: in Jan 2025 he said AGI was 5-10 years away and might need one or two more breakthroughs; by Feb 2026 he called it a threshold moment, possibly within 5 years; as of Oct 2026 he expects AGI within 2-3 years. "It's soon," he says. "I'm updating nearer and nearer." He defines AGI as a system with the full cognitive range of the human brain — all capabilities, not just some.
