Specter paper: quantization-enabled speculative offloading speeds up single-GPU MoE inference up to 1.88x
pmttyji · reddit · 2026-10-21
The Specter paper tackles the PCIe I/O bottleneck when offloading MoE experts to host memory. A lightweight quantized draft model preserves high-fidelity expert activation patterns, enabling accurate multi-step lookahead so the runtime can pre-arrange expert movement ahead of verification. It achieves 1.50x average (up to 1.88x) TPOT speedup over SOTA, making memory-constrained single-GPU MoE inference practical on commodity hardware. Code open-sourced; accepted to ASPLOS.
