Feeding agents CSV/Sheets data: raw rows, SQL tools, or structured query APIs?
Extreme-Technology77 · reddit · 2026-10-21
A practical agent-engineering debate on handling tabular data: (1) return raw rows and let the model do the math — totals break on large files; (2) expose a SQL tool like DuckDB/SQLite MCP servers — powerful but prone to slow or wrong queries; (3) structured tools like aggregate(where, groupby, metrics) as in datatomcp, SheetDB, Sheety. Open question: do models filter more accurately when first shown real column values?
