charliermarsh · x · 2026-10-21
Charlie Marsh details Astral's true fork of rustc, cargo, rustfmt and clippy, optimized with agent-authored patches. Incremental cargo check gets up to 30x faster; replaying real dev sessions shows 30-40% overall speedup. Benchmarks vs Rust 1.99.0: all commands drop from 1,388.56s to 859.38s (38.11% faster), cargo check 67.14% faster, clippy 54.50%, and a Codex coding session 45.28%. Disk space is optimized similarly.
