Infinitely forkable Zork: every reply is a save point in this multiplayer AI experiment
lfschiavo · x · 2026-10-21
Developer deepfates built an infinitely forkable version of Zork playable in Delvetown, proposing GAMES as a new model for multiplayer AI. Every reply acts as a save point, so anyone can branch a new storyline from any node — including other people's runs — forming 'a dungeon of forking paths.'
In the quoted thread, the author notes existing multiplayer-AI patterns all revolve around Work (one person controlling one agent, a swarm, an overseer, etc.), with AI in play mostly limited to building games or playing NPCs. Per the screenshot, the @dungeon.delve.town bot runs the 1980 Zork I: reply with a command like '> open mailbox' and the game answers, with each post holding a saved game.
