Open-weights video + Opus editing cuts 15s clip cost to ~$0.14, ~80x cheaper than Seedance

The author shares a low-cost AI video pipeline that sidesteps Seedance's $11.31 per 15-second 1080p clip.
- MiniMax open-sourced H3, and fastH3-omni (a sped-up variant accepting reference images, video, and audio) went fully open: self-hosted on one B200, it renders a 15s clip in 75s at $0.14/clip (768p, pre-upscale, at $6.75/hr GPU rates). One card yields 48 clips/hour — self-hosting pays off for large projects.
- For smaller runs, Reactor's hosted fastH3-omni API charges $0.18/clip ($0.0125/sec), still 60x cheaper than Seedance.
- The trick: individual clips lose to Seedance, but Opus 5.5 (via a Claude subscription) acts as director — storyboarding, keeping characters and voices consistent, reviewing takes for artifacts, reshooting drifts, and cutting 5–15s clips into a scene that comes very close.
