OpenAI's dots can now use company tools via Merge for Workforce with employee-bound permissions
shensi · x · 2026-10-21
Merge announced that OpenAI's dots — personal agents in ChatGPT running on their own cloud computers — can now use IT-approved company tools through Merge for Workforce, with access tied to each employee's existing identity, permissions, and audit controls, persisting even after the app is closed.
Implementation: ChatGPT turns remote MCP servers into plugins, so the Merge for Workforce MCP endpoint is added as a custom plugin. After a one-time sign-in via the company's identity provider, Merge uses the employee's Groups to scope access — sales gets approved actions in Salesforce, Gong, and Slack; finance gets NetSuite and Google Drive — with every call governed and logged. One plugin unlocks hundreds of third-party systems.
