tsrs: agent-built Rust port of TypeScript runs 8x faster with 70% less memory
irvinebroque · x · 2026-10-21
voidzerodev introduces tsrs, a Rust port of the TypeScript compiler (not a fork, built in close collaboration with the TS team):
- Up to 8x faster than TS 7.0 and 70% less memory
- Runs in WASM, works in browsers and Workers
- Soon part of the Oxc toolchain; installable via npx tsrs
steipete migrated over a weekend, calling it a drop-in replacement that's 5x faster for OC — and notes Microsoft needed a team and two years to rewrite the TS compiler in Go, while an agent delivered something significantly better in weeks.
