The HF team read the source code of 17 coding agents and mapped how each harness is built:
- mini-SWE-agent: a 100-line loop, a single bash tool, a fresh subprocess per command, never-compacted history
- Claude Code: closed-source, classifier-reviewed auto mode, 40+ built-in tools, subagents, plugins, in-process mods
- Aider uses per-model SEARCH/REPLACE text-edit formats; Codex CLI ships per-model catalogs and OS sandboxes; Gemini CLI has a TOML policy engine and two-pass XML snapshot compressor; goose is MCP-extension-centric; DeepSeek dsh is everything-is-a-plugin with YAML patch stacks
- Kimi Code: TypeScript rewrite shipping a 128-way AgentSwarm
Thread of fun facts and tips about the tools we use every day.
