4-char chunking slashes output latency: 10,000 words from 4.3s to 19ms
DanielLockyer · x · 2026-10-20
Daniel Lockyer shares a latency benchmark for 4-character chunked output processing: 1,000 words drops from 46ms to 2ms, 2,000 words from 171ms to 3ms, 5,000 words from 1.1s to 7ms, and 10,000 words from 4.3s to just 19ms — with gains scaling dramatically for longer texts, which he credits to Opus 5.5.
