Dev reverse-engineers Starsiege to byte-identical machine code via Mac + Colima + QEMU
sloppenheimer · x · 2026-10-20
Developer sloppenheimer shares a retro-game reverse-engineering project: using a Mac → Colima VM → QEMU pipeline with the Borland C++ compiler, they decompiled the 1999 mech game Starsiege directly from machine code and achieved a rebuild that is byte- and register-identical to the original.
"Decompilation and reverse engineering is fun, as it turns out," the author notes, adding that more work is in the pipeline.
