PE portfolio lessons: faster AI coding doesn't automatically mean higher EBITDA
alex_verem · x · 2026-10-20
Observations from embedding AI engineers in PE-backed portfolio companies: AI tool budgets already exist, but tying spend to shipped work is hard. Faster coding just builds up review/testing queues — more code doesn't mean higher EBITDA. Recommendations: measure cost per merged PR alongside delivery time and rework, give AI spend a clear owner, route agent model calls through a governed gateway, and tie results to actual cost savings or revenue gains.
