Ultra Ethernet Spec 1.1 Lands With Scale-Up Networking and In-Network Computing
thoefler · x · 2026-10-19
The Ultra Ethernet Consortium has released version 1.1 of its specification (October 12), announced by the author after meeting key UEC members at the OCP Global Summit in San Jose.
New in 1.1:
- Scale-Up Networking
- Programmable Congestion Control
- In-Network Computing
- Congestion Signaling
UEC aims to deliver an open, interoperable, high-performance Ethernet-based full communications stack for AI and HPC at scale — matching supercomputer interconnect performance while keeping Ethernet's ubiquity and cost-effectiveness, addressing bandwidth, tail latency, and multipathing demands of large-scale AI training. The spec is downloadable from the consortium's site.
