Underwater AI data center planned in Alaska's Cook Inlet, home to 330 endangered belugas

A US federal energy regulator is reviewing an application for an underwater AI data center in Alaska's Cook Inlet — among the first in American waters, with 350 turbines and 66 server "hives" sunk into the seafloor.
The Center for Biological Diversity warns the site sits inside critical habitat of roughly 330 remaining endangered belugas (down from 1,300 in 1979), and that construction and turbine noise could disrupt their feeding and communication. A commercial fishing group also says DeepGreen never studied impacts on fisheries.
