Autonomous vehicle demo shows reversing to yield on narrow roads

Swaayatt demonstrated a key Level-5 capability: reversing when the situation demands it. They blocked a single-lane road with obstacles on both sides while an oncoming car held the center without yielding — the only solution was for the AV to reverse, find a spot on the left shoulder, and let the other vehicle pass.
The team says this behavior is built into their motion-planning algorithms and decision-making policies. A full demo video coming soon will compare a classical motion-planning approach against a policy learned via deep reinforcement learning. Since the car has an automatic transmission, they built a robotic manipulator to shift between drive and reverse, just as a human driver would.
