Codex Desktop bug: 2,007 failed background requests in 14 minutes spike CPU
arrhen · ghdev · 2026-10-12
- A developer filed a detailed issue on openai/codex reporting that the macOS Desktop build (155.0.8059.40) keeps making background hydration requests that fail with -32003: thread access denied, while the renderer pins 59–100% of a CPU core on an Apple Silicon Mac.
- Measurements: 2,007 failed background hydration requests across 96 chat IDs in 14 minutes, 35,374 denied-error log rows over 18 hours, one target failing roughly every 5 seconds, and 496 denied errors within 25 seconds of a fresh restart.
- Marking a chat read via the official setthreadreadstate tool succeeds but does not stop the retry loop; restarting the app doesn't fix it either.
