Architectural 'shape' is where human alpha lives in the AI coding era
gregmushen · x · 2026-10-12
Greg Mushen lays out a three-part argument:
- New models are getting very good at developing software to spec.
- Other models are good at generating those specs — but that depends on collapsing the architectural solution space.
- Collapsing the solution space requires defining the architectural "shape".
His conclusion: architecture is now where human alpha lives, because it is constraint-setting under uncertainty. AI can read papers, but nothing substitutes for decades of accumulated intuition about architectural patterns — "the kind that woke you up at 2am."
