Codex Windows desktop hit by repeated stream disconnects since Oct 10, VS Code extension affected too
Guilliman-XIII · ghdev · 2026-10-10
openai/codex issue #52919: on Windows 11 25H2 with Codex desktop app (26.1007.2314.0) and ChatGPT Pro, the app began repeatedly disconnecting on 2026-10-10.
- Prompts and long tasks intermittently fail after repeated Reconnecting… attempts; remote context compaction also fails.
- Log analysis across 5 session files found 22 terminal task failures, 18 response-stream failures, 4 Remote Compact failures, plus 261 websocketerror and 260 reconnectfailed desktop events (event counts, not distinct failed prompts).
- Switching to the VS Code extension looked like a fix at first, but it disconnected later too, suggesting a shared-component fault; root cause undetermined.
