Tallinn University PhD project builds webcam system that reads faces and responds in real time
Brighter-Side-News · reddit · 2026-10-12
PhD candidate Abdallah Hussein Sham at Tallinn University developed the Enactive Facial Expression Pipeline (EFEP), addressing the gap where realistic digital faces still fail to react appropriately to a person's smile, frown, or shifting expression.
Rather than labeling a single photo, EFEP treats facial behavior as an exchange unfolding over time, connecting webcam-based facial-expression analysis with generation of an artificial character's response. The work combines experimental datasets and prior published research, including studies in Sensors and Signal, Image and Video Processing.
